Itinerary

Day 01 :
Arrival

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport, where you will be met and greeted by your driver/guide, and then proceed to your accommodation, which is just 7 minutes away. Depending on your time of arrival, we will head out to look for the Northern White-faced Owl before dinner.

Day 02 :
Bird Mabamba, Lunch, then Transfer to The Rhino Sanctuary

Enjoy an early breakfast, and then proceed to Mabamba Wetlands with a packed lunch. You will be driven in a motorized boat through the swamp, looking for the mighty Shoebill and other birds, such as the Blue-breasted Bee-eater, among others.

Bird your way back to Jinja, looking out for birds like African Pied Hornbill, Eastern Plantain Eater, Red-headed Lovebird, Piapiac, Splendid Starling, Purple Starling, Orange Weaver, and Weyn’s Weaver, among others.

We will then transfer to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, getting there in the evening just in time for a hot shower and dinner.

Day 03 :
Rhino Tracking, then transfer to Murchison Falls

Today you will head out for a Rhino tracking experience and some birdwatching, coming back in time for lunch and departure time to Murchison Falls. Birds to look out for while tracking Rhinos include Black-crowned Night-Heron, Shoebill, Ducks, Raptors, African Green Pigeon, Cuckoos, African Scops-Owl, Nightjars, Greater Honeyguide, Woodpeckers, Cuckoo-shrikes, Chats, Crombecs, Green-backed Eremomela, Cisticolas, Tits, Sunbirds, Shrikes, Orioles, Starlings, Weavers, Finches, among others.

Day 04 :
Game Drive and Boat Ride to the Bottom of the Falls

Have an early breakfast and proceed for a game drive to see a variety of wildlife. Lunch, then in the afternoon, go for a boat trip up to the bottom of the Falls from which you will see hundreds of hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird life.

 Look out for birds like Heuglin’s Francolin, Northern Carmine Bee-eater, Red-throated Bee-eater, Swallow-tailed Bee-eater, Abyssinian Ground Hornbill, Vinaceous Dove, Black-billed Wood Dove, Piapiac, Cisticolas, White-shouldered Tit, Shelley’s Sparrow, White-browed Sparrow Weaver, Chestnut-crowned Sparrow Weaver, Northern Red Bishop, Bar-breasted Firefinch, Black-rumped Waxbill, and more. 

You will then head back to the lodge with an evening game drive for another chance to look for the nocturnal.

Day 05 :
Delta Boat Trip and Game Drive

A boat trip to the delta on the Nile below the falls will be a highlight of our stay here and gives us another opportunity to see the bizarre Shoebill. A few pairs frequent a narrow strip of papyrus along the Nile and often allow a close approach by boat. 

Here we should also see African Darter, Striated (or Green-backed), Grey, Purple and Goliath Herons, Little Bittern, Yellow-billed and Great Egrets, Saddle-billed Stork, White-faced Whistling Duck, Spur-winged and Egyptian Geese, Knob-billed Duck, Black Crake, Grey Crowned Crane, African Jacana, Senegal Thick-knee, Spur-winged Lapwing, Rock Pratincole, Blue-headed Coucal, the beautiful Red-throated Bee-eater, Carruthers’s Cisticola and Papyrus Gonolek, as well as many Hippopotamuses and some huge Nile Crocodiles.

Day 06 :
Bird to Kibale

After breakfast, drive south to Kibale in the Toro Kingdom, birding en route. Look out for birds like African Pied Hornbill, Blue Malkoha, Speckled Tinkerbird, Yellow-throated Tinkerbird, Honeyguide Greenbul, Yellow-throated Leaflove, Brown-backed Scrub Robin, Green Hylia, Lowland Masked Apalis, Cassin’s Grey Flycatcher, Sooty Flycatcher, Black-&-white Shrike Flycatcher, Seimundi Sunbird, Grey-chinned Sunbird, Purple-headed Starling, Splendid Starling, Narrow-tailed Starling, White-breasted Nigrita, Black Bishop, Western Citril among others.

Day 07 :
Chimp Tracking & Bird Kibale National Park

Early breakfast and then proceed to bird Kibale Forest, which is the best place in Uganda to see Chimps and other primates. Tracking starts from Kanyanchu visitors center, where you will be briefed before heading out to look for your distant cousin (Chimpanzee).

Look out for birds like the Green-breasted Pitta, Red- Red-breasted Owl, Narina Trogon, African Emerald Cuckoo, Grey Parrot, Sabine’s Spinetail, Black-billed Turaco, Yellow-billed Barbet, Red-tailed Ant Thrush, among other birds, and Primates like Blue Monkey, Black and white Colobus, Grey-cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, Vervet Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey, L’Hoest’s Monkey, among others.

Day 08 :
Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Boat Ride

Today we transfer to Queen Elizabeth NP, arriving in time for the PM boat ride on the Kazinga Channel. Look out for a variety of wildlife like hippos, crocodiles, and bird life from a boat for two hours. Look out for birds like Yellow-billed Stork, Saddle-billed Stork, African Spoonbill, Raptors, Plovers, White-browed Robin-chat, Rufous-naped Lark, Red-chested Sunbird, Scarlet-chested Sunbird, Shrikes, Weavers, Finches, among other birds. Also, look out for mammals like Uganda Kob, Bushbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, Buffaloes, Elephants, Warthog, among others.

Day 09 :
AM Game drive then Transfer to Ishasha Sector

The park, which is named after Queen Elizabeth, who visited it in 1954, is the second largest national park in Uganda. It ranks highest concerning overall diversity, with a bird species list exceeding 600, and has a mosaic of habitats from moist forest at Imaramagambo to wild savannah.

Look out for species like the African Crake, Brown-chested Lapwing,  Lanner Falcon, Red-necked Spurfowl, Collared Pratincole, Senegal and Crowned Lapwings, Ring-necked Dove, Black Coucal, Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl, Olive (or Madagascar) Bee-eater, African Hoopoe, Common Scimitarbill, Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, Greater and Lesser Honeyguides, African Grey Woodpecker, Rufous-naped Lark, African (or Grassland) and Plain-backed Pipits, Banded Martin, Arrow-marked and Black-lored Babblers, Fan-tailed Grassbird, Trilling, Wing-snapping and Stout Cisticolas, Orange-breasted (or Sulphur-breasted) Bushshrike, Purple-banded Sunbird, Lesser Masked and Spectacled Weavers, Southern Red Bishop, Fan-tailed and White-winged Widowbirds, Green-winged Pytilia, Brimstone Canary and Golden-breasted Bunting, Lunch then transfer to the Ishasha in the southern sector of the park.

We will spend two nights in the most remote area of Queen Elizabeth National Park, renowned for its arboreal lions!

Day 10 :
A full-day safari in Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth for Tree Climbing Lions

 Breakfast, then head out for the AM game drive to look for the tree-climbing lions and other wildlife. As we drive along, we will have views of several antelopes like Uganda Kob, Defassa waterbuck, Topi, and many more. Have lunch, then head out for an evening game drive to fill in the gaps.

Day 11 :
Bird your way to Bwindi

With your picnic lunch, bird your way to Bwindi. Look out for birds like Martial Eagle, Francolins, Barbets, Chats, Cuckooshrikes, Sunbirds, Fork-tailed Drongo, Larks, Pipits, Weavers, Widowbird, among other birds. You will look out for mammals like Topi, Uganda Kob, Water Buck, Buffaloes, Elephants, Baboons, and others.

Day 12 :
Gorilla Trekking and Birding

Breakfast, then head to the Gorilla trekking briefing point.

We recommend that you wear good walking shoes and carry good rain gear and enough drinking water. Gorilla trekking can be tough and challenging, and so we trust you are in reasonably fit condition for the Gorilla trekking levels. You will carry a picnic lunch with you into the forest, but not to share with the gorillas, and you will be thrilled to have seen these Gorillas (no guarantee), and the return journey from Gorilla trekking could be easier.

Day 13 :
Bird Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Buhoma Sector)

Today we will be birding Bwindi Impenetrable forest looking for species like Bar-tailed Trogon, Black Bee-Eater, White-headed Wood-hoopoe, Tinkerbirds and Barbets, Woodpeckers, African Broadbill, assorted Greenbuls, White-bellied Robin-Chat, Red-throated Alethe, Chapin’s Flycatcher, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Black-faced Rufous Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Mountain Masked Apalis, Bocage’s Bush-shrike, Luhder’s Bush-shrike, Pink-footed Puffback, Petit’s Cuckooshrike, Starlings, Black-billed Weaver, Brown-capped Weaver, among other birds like the Red-chested owl.

Day 14 :
Bird to Lake Mburo National Park

This morning, we’ll bird eastwards through the terraced mountains of Kigezi to the open plains and rocky hillsides of Ankole. We’ll have a few stops along the way to enjoy the scenery and birds.

We’ll be able to get closer views of the fabulous Ankole long-horned cattle as we drive to Mbarara and onto Lake Mburo, where we’ll stay at Rwakobo Rock for the next three nights. Birding here is a delightful experience, and often one of the highlights of a birding trip to Uganda. Look out for birds like Augur Buzzard, Crested Francolin, Emerald Spotted Wood Dove, Spot-flanked Barbet, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Lailac-breasted Roller, Black-headed Gonolek, Starlings, among other birds.

Day 15 :
Bird Lake Mburo National Park and Boat Ride

Whole day birding Lake Mburo National Park looking for birds like the Bateleur, Crested Francolin, Black-bellied Bustard, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Brown Parrot, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Blue-napped Mousebird, African Grey Hornbill, Red-faced Barbet, Spot-flanked Barbet, Larks, Pipits, Long-tailed Cisticola, Yellow-breasted Apalis among other birds.

In the afternoon, take a boat cruise to look for the African Finfoot and other birds. Before dinner, try the African Scops Owl, Swamp, Black-shouldered, and Freckled Nightjars among other birds. Look out for animals like the gorgeous Eland, Zebra, Impala, Buffalo, Topi, Reedbuck, Waterbuck buck Bushbuck, Hippos, Oribi, and Bush duiker as you look for birds.

Day 16 :
Drive to Entebbe and Departure ( Late evening flight recommended)

Today we drive to Airport Link Guest House in Entebbe, where you will freshen up before heading to Entebbe International Airport in time for your departure flight.
